Update | Studio | Showroom

I've been so busy scrubbing and cleaning and painting and installing shelves and making trips to the hardware store that I've had little time for more than an occasional daydream about a new Little Richard release. The space is moving along, no doubt, and I remain excited and hopeful about the potential of it all.

A paint job and some new storage boxes seem to be a great solution for managing the stock of supplies for my space.
This afternoon I created this design board, soon to be covered with drawings, swatches, reference images, this and that; A tidy grid to control the forthcoming chaos.
And, of course, the piles of junk persist until it all gets a new home.

Seamster Painter | Inside

One of the biggest thrills of getting a new space is watching it change from what it was, to what you want it to be. As I spend my weekend with a paint roller in hand, I'm revisiting the pleasures of thinking about a new design space, and remain more than excited about it all. As of this afternoon neutral shades adorn all the walls, and our floor has been repainted a lovely rich dark grey.

Most exciting of all was scraping the paint off the front windows to let in the natural light. Jacob's inclination was to start by making this rainbow...a great way to let in the first rays, and an appropriate welcome for our neighborhood.

Having friends on board with this all is fantastic. So many have already offered their help and congratulations....and our doors aren't even open! I'm most fortunate to be sharing the space with my good friend and fellow designer Rachel who runs a wonderful custom rug design business; Dorje Contemporary. She'll be occupying the back half of the space, while I manage the front as my studio and showroom. Good energy, good company - so many reasons to know its right.

I Wasn't Kidding ||| Studio/Showroom

I wasn't kidding friends. When I said I was going public, I meant it!

Coming soon to Seattle: Michael Cepress|Studio/Showroom

I have leased a charming space with loads of potential in the heart of Seattle's historic Capitol Hill, and plan to finally make the leap I have long dreamed of by opening a public studio/showroom for my design work.

And because I'm always up for a bit of show and tell, I plan to steadily blog about the development of the space so you can be by my side until I throw open the doors. I couldn't dream of better co-pilots for the ride!

To get the ball started, you can enjoy this "before" shot of the storefront.
