C-Press | Seattle Metropolitan Magazine STYLE COUNSEL

I'm thrilled about my feature in the new issue of SEATTLE METROPOLITAN MAGAZINE. Thanks to Laura Cassidy for inviting me to serve this month on their Style Counsel. It always feels really good to get this sort of attention....and just in time for the fall designs that will be hitting the racks here soon!

C-Press | ItsMyDarlin'

A heap of thanks to Dana Landon, a local style-searcher and blogger who took the time to visit my space and do a flattering little write-up on what she found. Thanks Dana and come back again!

Sweet Inspiration | Hassle-Free

"...home-made clothes shouldn't be only a chick thing. Men should be able to get over their uptightness about making clothes, about doing all kinds things they have been brainwashed into relegating to women..."

"There's a thing about high fashion - it's pretty much a hype. All this raising and lowering of hemlines, these do-dos and don't-dont's seem to us to be just a way for the clothing industry - big business indeed - to keep their thing going. We find Vogue and Bazaar magazines best for cutting up as collages. Mass-produced garments just never seem to acquire the aura of down-home funkiness that home-mades have."

Big thanks to sweet Rosie for hipping me to this one!

Mary Travers | Never-Say-Die

I suppose I toss around the word "hero" more than most might. I suspect that it is in my genes to be on a never-ending quest to tally a list of people who I offer that title to - people who have had such a profound impact on my life that I can't help but look up to them, can't help but cherish their work and gifts to the world, and can't help but want to emulate that in my own work as an artist. The world lost one of my heroes this week when Mary Travers passed on.

Peter Paul and Mary's PBS specials were a favorite thing to watch over and over again as a kid; I was delighted when the station used them to gather resources because I knew that it meant repeat plays for days on end. The middle-aged Mary I came to know seemed alive, spirited, and always draped in fabulous lengths of colorful fabric, crowned with her perfectly straight blond hair with never-say-die square-cut bangs.

When I grew older and learned about the group's history and legacy, I came to know of young Mary - the Mary of the early days of the group - whose style was supreme and came from a camp of musicians that embodied an energy, style, passion, power, sense of concern and love that I crave and thrive on.

Her gifts to the world are many, and her name is firmly engraved on my list of heroes.

Edward Fong | gAgA

A big round of applause for my designer friend Edward Fong (you may remember him from a while back in his red lame) who has found some well-deserved attention via Lady Gaga and this lovely mask he designed. Its always a thrill to see my fellow young designers getting their time in the sun!

Sartorialist's Funk and Flash | Nothing New Under the Sun

I couldn't help but tie this recent image from the Sartorialist back to my many musings on funk and flash. Its great seeing the spirit of a time-steeped look still make so much sense today.

And in my mind, I like to pretend that Anonymous is Alexandra Jacopetti.

MC Custom | Another for Mr. Gratton | More In Black

Mr. Gratton keeps me busy, and offers a great creative challenge with each and every design I add to his wardrobe. His commissions are especially gratifying as I know he truly wears them...he lives in them...parties in them...sweats in them....brings them in for repairs....its all so very perfect and exciting!

Here is my newly completed jacket for Mr. Gratton. He approached me with a request for something unstructured and black that played with matte/shiny contracts and had a built-in lapel that was "convertible." Here's the finished piece in what I call "Phase 1" with the satin shawl collar completely exposed.
Phases 1 thru 3 - showing the lapels in all their convertible glory!

Other special details were considered for the client's taste; he is keen on layers and loves variety and versatility without overlooking any chance for a spectacular detail. The buttons called for little bows on the inside of the front closure. Rheal sealed the deal when he said "If this flips open we need something special there. Don't you think there should be little satin bows?"

Yes, I do think there should be little satin bows!
The sleeves gather with a rouched effect...the casing allows them to be sinched to the perfect length and tied off accordingly. Rheal debuts the look for a party tonight, and we'll be trimming the ribbons to the perfect length together...as a celebration of the new addition to his wardrobe!

MC's Neighbhorhood | Cody

We always welcome a visit from our artist friend Cody Blomberg, if only to revel in the combination of clever banter and colorful style he always offers. With his last stop through he picked up this MC skinny tie; the perfect match for his outstanding plaid!

AND....

Here's a painting of Cody's featuring the very same plaid. Textiles never fail to inspire, my friends!
