Boaters

My weekend was very much about my new boater...and a whole stream of new thoughts and questions that have come to mind about this style of hat. More on all of this very soon!

Mr. Washington | Custom Trousers | Cropped Short to Strut the Loafers

Orange...on the inside | Mr. Washington's Trousers

The light weight plum gabardine for the exterior of Mr. Washington's trousers is quite nice and drapes beautifully. I suspect, however, that the orange satin linings take the cake.

Better Late Than Never

I just realized that the title of my blog has read "Winter" all this time. Summer is here, and its about time I start paying attention!

Mr. Van Der Spek | Three Pieces

In time for his summer wedding, I finished this three piece suit for Mr. Van Der Spek. The exterior wool is a light weight tweed, and the accent fabric a lovely wool/silk blend. The copper art-deco buttons were a great find, and the turquoise silk lining with accenting mint green ribbon and seam bindings are fun and necessary.

The one tool I do not have in my studio is an adequate button hole machine for coat button holes. Thankfully I'm typically a purist and opted for these traditional welted holes instead...a handsome combination with the contrasting edge of the lapel and top collar, wouldn't you say?

The trousers matched the set, of course, and were also lined in the turquoise silk. It is my intention to replace these drab studio snapshots with photos of the clients themselves in their new custom pieces.

First Label | For My Dad

The very first official MC label has been woven, and proudly sewn into the necktie I made my dad for Father's Day. Gold thread and a sturdy cross stitch hold it in place. Why this particular tie? Because I love my dad.

Signs | Vinyl MC

My new storefront signage arrived last night, and has put a lovely new level of polish on the front of our space. Our neighborhood sign guy Marc offered his craft and skillful eye to install something I'm proud to have facing the public eye.

A few free hours between design meetings gave me a chance to finally sew up the 10 yards of poppy red cotton velvet I purchased months ago for my fitting room curtains. At last the space is fully functional as a changing room and space to take client's measurements and host fittings. The custom carpet I have planned for the corner is still only batting around my mind, but will soon become a reality.
