I had a terrible time with poison oak when I lived in SF. I got it year after year, and it invariably spread into the most inconvenient places on my body. I recommend Domeboro Astringent Solution. Create a damp compress saturated with the medicine and just leave it on the outbreak as long as possible. You can get the stuff at most any drug store.
i got it up in door county one summer...we think i got it from one of the dogs that roved around in the woods...use calimine (however you spell it) lotion.
